Born in the Bronx currently residing in Oceanside, Long Island, both of Jay’s parents were born in New York and his grandparents were immigrants (Ashkenazi Jews) from Austria.
He is married to Lonnie, a Nurse Practitioner In New York City, and has two daughters - Deborah and Meredith. Deborah is a School teacher in New Jersey and is married to Seth. Meredith lives in Riverdale and is a fashion designer who is married to Steve. Jay and Lonnie have six grandchildren - Caleb, Zev, Sam, Sivan, Olivia, and Akiva.
Jay Mostel has an MBA in Health Care Administration from Adelphi University and a BBA in Accounting from Baruch College. Jay was active in college and was the Treasurer for Student Council. He is a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator in New York State and an Advanced member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association- an organization in which he received the William Follmer Award for service.
He is a Board member of the Long Island Infant Development Program in Nassau County, the Kaplan Cancer Foundation, The Oceanside Jewish Community Center and the National Committee for the Furtherance of Jewish Education of Nassau County and is involved in the airing of the Chanukah Telethon each December. Jay is a graduate of the Dale Carnegie School of Executive Management. He has attended various seminars related to the Nursing Home field, many of them given by the New York Association of Homes and Services for the Aged.
Jay has added a new and important organization to his portfolio of affiliations. FD NOW at Partnership for Cures is a groundbreaking group that is fiting Familial Dysautomomia, an incurable genetic and neurological disease. FD Now is currently researching possible treatments for this disease. Jay is working hard on bringing this horrible disease that plagues thousands of innocent children annually to the forefront.
He is an active member of the Downstate Controllers group and has participated in New York Empire Blue Cross committees. Jay previously was the CFO for the Menorah Home in Brooklyn and was Director of Administration at the Nassau County Cerebral Palsy Center which cared for over 1,000 children.
Jay is also a committee member of the annual Golf Tournament for the benefit of Hebrew Academy of Nassau County. Most recently, Jay chairs an annual Fund Raising Golf Tournament for the benefit of a new Emergency Suite in the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, Israel.
