Meet Our Residents
Ruth was born in the United States, as were her parents. After raising her family in New Jersey, she and her husband retired to Florida.
When her husband passed away, it became too difficult for her to live alone. Eight years ago, Ruth returned to New York to be near her family.
Wanting to remain independent, Ruth moved to Sephardic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she is comfortable knowing that all her medical needs are taken care of while she is free to enjoy the many recreation activities we offer each day.
Ruth especially likes painting and crafts and is an active member of the resident’s council and enjoys frequent visits from her family.
Zalman was born in Poland and is a Holocaust survivor, the only one in his extended family who survived the concentration camps, using, as he says, “my wits.”
After the war he moved to Brooklyn, working in the bakery business for more than 50 years.
When he was no longer able to live independently, he came to live with us at Sephardic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He says, “The staff here is my family, my first in a long time. I love them and they love me.”
David is Sephardic and came here from Israel as a small child. he served honorably in the United States Navy during wartime, in combat situations.
After the war he married Ora and they settled in Brooklyn, where he first worked as an airplane mechanic and then as a school bus driver.
David came to live at Sephardic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center five years ago and is among our most active residents. his primary responsibility is helping the Rabbi with shul and religious duties, including assembling a minyan. He is also serving a second term as President of the Resident’s Council.
“This is my home,” he states, “and the place keeps me very busy.”
Mollie is Syrian and was born in Brooklyn, one of seven children. Mollie came to live at Sephardic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center five years ago together with her husband, who required skilled nursing care.
When David passed away, Mollie decided to stay on, as she is able to maintain her independence while enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the Home. Mollie reads extensively, chooses to join those activities which interest her, and enjoys daily visits from members of her large family, many of whom live in Brooklyn.
“The staff is wonderful,” she states, “and I am so comfortable here.”
